Bonne Chance CW and Janika Sprunger not start in Olympic individual final due to regulations

Although Bonne Chance CW and Janika Sprunger qualified for the Olympic individual final in Rio de Janeiro, the Swiss combination will not start. According to the regulations, only three riders per country are allowed to start in the final and because all four Swiss had finished on nine penalties, chef d'équipe Andy Kistler had to decide.

“With a great lap from Bonnie and me, we close the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro,” says Janika Sprunger. “I was so hoping for a spot in the final next Friday – for Kompi and for all the people who support us and believe in us. This was my biggest dream, my biggest goal! All Swiss riders finished on nine penalty points and Andy Kistler had to decide which three riders would go to the final. Bonne and I weren't here. A very difficult moment for us because Bonnie and I really deserved a chance in the final, but so did the other three!”

Matches Olympic finalists and Prinsjesdag collection striking

The bloodlines of the Olympic finalists in show jumping in Rio de Janeiro and the auction collection of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag have many similarities. For example, Prinsjesdag offers a colt out of the three-quarter sister of Dejavu (Bassem Hassan Mohammed), a filly out of the half-sister of Emerald (Harrie Smolders) and a colt out of the direct line of Bonne Chance CW (Janika Sprunger).

The colt foal Qui a Vu van 't Merelsnest is a genetically very striking specimen. His sire Vigo d'Arsouilles was the 2010 World Champion under Philippe Le Jeune and his dam is Lacoste van de Bucxtale – a daughter of the Heartbreaker son Zambesi. This makes Lacoste a three-quarter sister of the Heartbreaker son Dejavu, who convincingly qualified for the individual final of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro under Bassem Hassan Mohammed. Olympian Zilverstar T (Nicola Philippaerts) also comes from this direct dam line.
The filly is also unique quartina DC – a daughter of the foundation sire Comme Il Faut out of the Nabab de Rêve daughter Intense van 't Meulenhof. The mother of Quartina DC is none other than the half-sister of Emerald, who will compete with Harrie Smolders for individual medal of honor on Friday.
Levisto Blue RV Z is a colt by Levisto Z x Mr. Blue and is closely related to Janika Sprunger's topper Bonne Chance CW – also auctioned at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. Levisto Blue's great-granddam Kalista – full sister of Audi's Jikke – is the granddam of Bonne Chance CW, who also qualified for the individual final. Unfortunately, Bonne Chance CW will not be allowed to start as three other Swiss riders were also qualified. According to the regulations, only three combinations per country are allowed to start in the final.

In addition, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag selected two offspring of Olympic finalists. The colt foal Vegas is a son of Maikel van der Vleutens two-time Olympian Verdi out of a Heartbreaker dam. Although things did not go as hoped for the Dutch team, Maikel van der Vleuten and Verdi did not miss a beat. With only two time errors, the foundation sire Verdi qualified for the Olympic final. Four years ago in London, Verdi also entered the last day without jumping errors. A very special colt is also Quest SZ – one of the very few descendants of the high-profile Quabri de l'Isle. The beautiful dark chestnut of Pedro Veniss jumped phenomenal every day in Rio and convincingly qualified for the battle for the individual medals.

With three offspring in the individual final, Cornet Obolensky and Kannan are the main suppliers in Rio de Janeiro. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag offers no fewer than five foals from Cornet Obolensky and two direct offspring from Kannan. Kannan is also represented several times in the dam line of the Prinsjesdag foals. In Barron (Lucy Davis) and Fit For Fun (Luciana Diniz) For Pleasure produces two direct offspring for the final and with Fine Lady (Eric Lamaze), First Choice (Yann Candele) and Fibonacci (Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum) three grandchildren. Prinsjesdag has included no fewer than four direct descendants of the legendary For Pleasure in its collection.
