Partner in the picture: Havens Horse Feeds

Over the years, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has not only built up a large network of buyers and entrants, the auction has also entered into a successful alliance with a select group of business partners. One of these partners is Ports Horse Feeds† This Dutch-based company sells their horse feeds all over the world.

The Havens range consists of chunks as well as mueslis and various mixes. From broodmares and recreational horses to Grand Prix horses, Havens puts together feed for every type of horse. They strive for the highest achievable quality. This means that top riders know where to find the company. Havens sponsors riders such as Jeroen Dubbeldam and Adelinde Cornelissen. In addition, they have been feed suppliers for the prestigious international top competition CHIO Aachen (DE) since 2004.

Bart Minten is a sales manager and has been working for Havens Paardenvoeders for over 25 years: “Products for (top) sports performance play an important role within the company, but everything starts with the basics; the breeding. We have special pellets for pregnant and lactating mares and feed for foals and young horses up to 18 months. With this we provide them with all the necessary nutrients for the best possible start.”

Fixed value in horse country
Havens was founded in 1845 in the Netherlands and operates worldwide in 55 countries. What is special is that all these countries are served from one production location. “All the feed that is sold all over the world is produced in the Netherlands. This way we can guarantee the quality of our feed. Because the factory is located on the river Maas, the supply of raw materials is very efficient.”

Bart maintains contact with international customers, stables and riders with whom he has entered into a partnership. The choice to become a partner at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag was an easy one for him. “We operate worldwide with our company and the international character of the auction fits in well with this. I speak to many of our customers at the auction.”

Prinsjesdag successes during the PAVO Cup

He was already crowned champion at the KWPN stallion selection in 2017, and this weekend Jameson RS2 also added the Dutch championship for young dressage horses. He won the PAVO Cup for four-year-olds. Jameson RS2 is owned by RS2 Dressage Center and was ridden by Marieke van der Putten. His breeder, Stal 104, sold him while he was still an embryo at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. By winning this competition, Jameson RS2 was selected for the shortened KWPN performance test. If all goes well, we will soon be able to add another approved stallion to our wall of fame.

The impressive KWPN-approved stallion Imposantos (by Wynton) became champion in the competition for five-year-olds. On September 12 we will auction a beautiful For Romance stallion foal out of the same dam as Imposantos.

There was also success in the six-year-old horse class; mare Hollywood Tarpania finished in tenth place in this prestigious competition. Her foal Still Tarpania (by Dream Boy) will appear in our auction on September 12th. We congratulate all involved.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag breaks open online market with bidding system

On September 11 and 12, customers of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will be able to bid via the internet. “Nothing new under the sun” some may think. But they are wrong. The bidding system works without any delay, which is unique in the world of online auctions.

The technology was developed by it company WeAuction for the real estate market, where online bidding at hall auctions is now well established. Director Paul Rijk explains; “We are convinced that for a successful online auction system you have to transfer the experience from the hall to the online users. We do this by making the sound of the auctioneer leading. Delay on the line has always been the problem when trying to combine online and real-time auctions. The images of the live stream are always a few seconds behind what is happening in the room at that moment. With our system, that delay is virtually non-existent. In this way, customers really have just as much chance online as people in the room.”

Automatic bidding (also called Robot bidding) is not possible with the system. Empire; “No, that is very conscious. Bidders decide on the basis of the live images whether they want to bid. Like people in the room, they can anticipate what they see and hear. When a bid is placed online, the room can immediately see who it comes from on the screen.” This creates a battle between bidders via the internet and the venue.

Huge track record
With more than 10,000 sold objects with a total value of more than 1.3 billion, the company is no longer a newcomer. At the company's auctions,
meanwhile an average of 39% of the items sold to online bidders. “We started with real estate auctions in 2008, but we have now successfully completed a number of foreign foal and horse auctions. We strive to offer the fastest and most reliable bidding system in the world.
If you decide not to come to the room, you need to be able to trust that the bidding system works so that you don't miss anything. I predict that the combination of online and offline auctions is the future.”

From the real estate world
Foal Auction Prinsjesdag chairman Arjan van der Waaij; “Times change and our auction aims to remain innovative. This system is very easy to use. It is clear and transparent. All the information we need from buyers is registered and different bidders can easily bid on a foal at the same time.”

Interested parties can register via the website of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. When they have been approved by the organization, they can log in via the site. The system works on any phone, tablet or PC with a good internet connection. A helpdesk is available on both auction days to answer questions about the system.

Athletes make their move in Ommen

During the first edition of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag during CSI Ommen, nine jumping foals were auctioned tonight. Under the inspiring leadership of auctioneer Ernesto Conseco, a total of €95,500 was spent in Stegeren. This brought the average selling price to €10,611.

Show jumping rider Lucas Porter bought the charming Quabri de l'Isle offspring Qualibrie. SZ. Porter: “I'm very happy with him. It looks like a very sharp and careful foal. We immediately noticed this in the presentation, he jumped over a shadow on the ground. And he is fantastically bred. With a super sire out of a mare from the direct line of one of my best horses ever: B Once Z. In short, he met all our requirements! We have another foal this year, it would be nice if the two could grow up together.”

Auction topper Badr (by Balou du Rouet x Zambesi) entered the arena as second last. The colt from the dam line of Van Schijndel's Now or Never and It's the Business was sold for €16,000.

President of the Budget Day, Arjan van der Waaij, about the first edition of the auction in Stegeren: “We are pleased that the entrants proved loyal to our auction and wanted to participate in this initiative. Most of the foals were bought by sports people. This is great for the breeders, because that way their breeding products reach the right people directly. We will most likely see them again in the international show jumping ring.”

The next editions of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will take place on 11 and 12 September at the National Equestrian Center in Ermelo.

Exclusive Prinsjesdag foal collection at CSI4* Ommen

On Saturday evening, August 4, nine very interesting jumping foals will be auctioned by auctioneer Ernesto Canseco at the first edition of the Prinsjesdag foal auction at the international competition in Ommen. The collection is now online.

For the coming edition of CSI4* Jumping De Driehoek in Stegeren-Ommen, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag and the Schuttert family have joined forces. By auctioning a very select group of high-quality foals between the ranking test and the Medium Tour final, sport and breeding come together beautifully. “We are looking forward to the auction because we have a lot of confidence in the initiative, the execution and the collection. We were able to select nine interesting sport foals, descending from stallions such as Balou du Rouet, Berlin, Quabri de L'Isle and Toulon”, says selection committee member Fred van Straaten.

Ideal shop window
By really looking up the sport, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag expects to attract a different audience than at the existing auctions on 11 and 12 September in Ermelo. “We have been selecting the very best foals for 26 years that underline our motto 'The power of performance'. Our entire selection is dominated by the sport, because that's where the horses prove themselves and people want to invest in it. In this way we can present promising foals with pedigrees brimming with performance genes on a great sports podium”, chairman Arjan van der Waaij adds.

Close to the sport
The foals for the auction in Ommen all have a lot of potential to develop into excellent show jumpers. “As a breeder and as a member of the selection committee, we follow international sport closely. We keep track of results and are alert to all developments. This also had consequences for the way in which we started to select foals. The point here is that there is as much sport as possible in the foal's first generations. So not a distant cousin, but a direct relationship,” explains Van Straaten. “Our southern neighbors have made great strides with this and Belgian breeding has -unconsciously- also had a clear influence on our foal collections. We are pleased that we have been able to select nine very interesting foals for the auction in Ommen, and are completely dependent on the breeders for this. They once again proved very loyal to us as a foal auction, and the majority of breeders were immediately enthusiastic about our new initiative in Ommen.”

One mare and eight colts form the collection. Check them out now on the site.

Top of the year under the hammer at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag

After an intensive search for the very best foals, the jumping and dressage collections for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag are complete. From an offer of more than 1,000 foals, 73 show jumping and 63 dressage foals were selected for the auctions on August 4 in Ommen and September 11 and 12 in Ermelo.

The organization of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is grateful for the enormous number of registrations and with it the unwavering confidence of breeders from home and abroad. Every year it is a great challenge to put together collections that meet the high standards and live up to the motto 'power through performance'. As a result, strict selection was inevitable and, unfortunately, interesting foals were also missed this year. The top of the year will be auctioned at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

Potency and pedigree
In the jumping direction, all current top progenitors and interesting sport stallions are represented, and without exception every foal comes from a strong dam line. Dams who have performed internationally themselves, and dams who have already produced Grand Prix horses. In the dressage foals there is also an interesting mix between foals descending from young promises and proven sires. With their excellent movement form and already convincing dressage talent, a great future also awaits them. And that future can be captured at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

Online soon
The full collections will be published later this month on www.prinsjesdag.eu† Also keep an eye on our Facebook page for the most current updates and reveals of the selected foals.

Xcellent Horse Insurance offers sellers security

Over the years, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has not only built up a large network of buyers and entrants, the auction has also entered into a successful alliance with a select group of business partners. Xcellent Horse Insurance has many years of experience in the field of horse insurance. The partnership with Prinsjesdag has been going on for much longer, but this year the organizations have strengthened their ties even further.

Tinus Krikke has been a consultant at Xcellent Horse Insurance since the beginning of this year: “The segment of foals sold at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag deserves customization, and we specialize in that. This year we developed an exclusive product for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag in collaboration with insurer ASR.”

An insurance policy is taken out for all auction foals for death and accidents, without deductible. The foal is insured from the photo-video days until two weeks after delivery to the new owner. Until the auction for an amount of €10,000 and from the hammer blow for the auctioned amount. “With this we offer the sellers a great deal of security. Foals are sold for high prices, and then the period between the auction and the transfer is often quite tense.”

Xcellent Horse Insurance offers insurance for every type of horse. The organization is unique in that they can also provide horses in the exclusive segment with insurance. Customized solutions are offered for this.

Very strong dressage collection

The selection committee has managed to secure a beautiful collection of dressage foals for the auction on September 12. An impressive list of offspring from both young progenitors and proven top stallions from dam lines with the best genes in Europe.

The power of performance is also the motto for the dressage selectors. Bert Poppelaars: “This year we had a choice of many good foals. We had to disappoint quite a lot of people with good quality foals. As a committee you try to find the real gems and that has been very successful this year.”

This year the dam lines are again bursting with Grand Prix horses and approved stallions. The Prinsjesdag photo-video days will take place on 16 and 17 July. We expect to be able to show both collections on the site at the end of July.

Talent jumps off

On September 11, an impressive collection of jumping foals will be auctioned. The selection committee considers itself fortunate to have foals from the best European mare lines. A very current selection has been made on the sport, but descendants of top progenitors such as Cornet Obolensky, Comme Il Faut, Diamant de Semilly, Emerald and Kannan also adorn the list.

Fred van Straaten: “We are looking for horses that go for it, fight for you. The moment a foal enters the orbit and it is enterprising, it moves electrically and when you see that it does not stick to the mother but goes its own way, then you know; we must have it.” After the photo-video days on July 16 and 17, we will place the selection online as soon as possible.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag comes with an exclusive auction at CSI Ommen

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag and the Schuttert family have joined forces for the upcoming edition of CSI Ommen. On Saturday 4 August, ten very interesting jumping foals will be auctioned during the evening program. An excellent opportunity to capture the future between two international jumping classes.

The idea of auctioning foals at the renowned competition in Ommen arose about a year and a half ago, but at the time it was too short a day to set everything up. Because both parties agree, if you do something you have to do it right. That is why the first auction will take place in 2018. “We have known the Schuttert family for many years as a loyal buyer at our auction, and we have already discussed a collaboration like this. In Germany, it happens more and more often that a select group of foals are auctioned at international competitions, and we are very confident that this initiative will bring success," says Arjan van der Waaij as chairman of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

Own character
The four-star competition at the Driehoekhoeve in Stegeren – Ommen attracts many visitors every year, and Saturday evenings invariably have a wonderful program. An auction between the ranking test and the Medium Tour final contributes to this on all fronts. “On the one hand, the auction at CSI Ommen is a nice preview of our auctions in Ermelo on September 11 and 12, on the other hand it will be an auction with its own character and audience. There are many riders and sports people at the competition, and the foals can be seen in the stable all day and during the presentation in the afternoon,” explains Van der Waaij. The exact collection will be announced two to three weeks prior to the auction. “This will mainly concern older foals. We have already selected a number of foals and can become part of this collection after our photo and video days. In addition, there is still room for a few new foals for this auction, as we are almost ready for our regular auctions.”

Start and end product together
Hendrik-Jan Schuttert also has high expectations of the auction during the international competition. “It has every potential to become a success. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag guarantees quality and service, and we want to offer that with this auction. Most foals grow into sport horses, so what could be better than bringing the initial product and the end product together in this way at an international competition”, says the rider and trader enthusiastically. “As a family, we have had success buying foals ourselves many times, so it is an initiative that I fully support. Buying a foal is a long road, but often the best way to get your hands on quality horses. The selectors of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag have also proven for many years that they have captured the top of the crop for their auction, so we are looking forward to the collection and the auction.”

More information about this exclusive Prinsjesdag auction and the collection will soon be available at www.prinsjesdag.eu and www.jumpingdedriehoek.nl.
