Looking back at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag 2021

The 29e edition of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag was a very successful auction. Besides the fact that it was nice to be able to greet each other in person again, the foals were sold to full satisfaction. Auction chairman Arjan van der Waaij: 'We are very satisfied with the progress of the auction and had a fantastic evening. We hope, of course, that the buyers have great success with their purchases. References are very important to us as an auction. This allows us to underline our vision 'The Power of Performance'

The list of references has recently been supplemented with the approval at Studbook Zangersheide of Nostalgisch VDP (Heartbreaker x Quidam de Revel, bred by VDP Horses in Bathmen) and Kartouche (For Pleasure x Stakkato, bred by Mr. Nijhof from Haaksbergen) who successfully was in young horse classes under top rider Jérôme Guery.

Dressage foals

The average price for dressage foals was 13,000 euros, with the peak of the Dutch Champion Rosatrichta van de Westen (Le Formidable x Apache) bred by C. Kikkert from Den Burg. This fantastic filly came into the hands of Atze Hartog, who bought four striking foals in addition to Rosatrichta. 'Our goal is to buy foals with good movement, a good blood build-up and of course a correct veterinary report. After a good rearing and a fine training, it is the intention that Dominique Filion trains the horses properly for the ultimate sale. Although the temptation is always there not to sell a very good one to see where the adventure can end', says Atze Hartog. Besides Rosatrichta, Rainman Texel (Glock's Toto Jr. x Negro, breeder Stoeterij van der Linde, Texel), Res Non Verba (Le Formidable x Florencio, breeder Mrs. Lammertink, Lochem), Ralph Lauren (McLaren x Vitalis, breeder Mrs. Radstake , Voorst) and Rossi (Vivino x Apache, breeder Mr. Loeters, Didam) made their way to the stables of Mr Hartog. 'We clearly prefer the sport, but it is not inconceivable that we will take our chance at the stallion selection with a very good stallion. The purchased foals have now been delivered and we hope that they will all grow up healthy from toddlers to teenagers first.'

Texel

Two of the foals bought by Atze Hartog were born on Texel and may remain there for the time being. Wim van der Linde: 'Rosatrichta and the Rainman Texel, bred by us, are going into rearing with us. We did the same 3 years ago with Rainman's full sister, Nouvelle Feniz Texel, the auction topper at the time, and it went very well. We think it's nice that foals that represent such values can grow up in slightly smaller flocks.' This year, Van der Linde sold no fewer than three foals on Prinsjesdag. 'We are very satisfied with the auction. It is a lot of work for us to come over from Texel with three foals, but this has certainly been worth it. I think you can say that Prinsjesdag has the right clientele for our foals.', says Wim van der Linde.

Jumping foals

The price of the jumping foals is an average of 14,500 euros. The Sleutels van de Keystud family in Roggel saw their beautiful Ceasaria Key SR Z (Chacco Blue x Bentley van de Heffinck) – a filly from the famous Usha van 't Roosakker line – leave for France.

Mr. Sleutels: 'We sold four foals at the Prinsjesdag Auction this year and we are very satisfied with the result. Of the four, two go to Schockemöhle, so you know that if they stay healthy and do well, they will float to the surface again.'

Diarado & Dominator Z

One of the foals bred by Sleutels remains in the Netherlands and that is Dominator Z daughter Dominatrix Key SR Z (out of a dam of ET Cryoozootech out of the line of Querly Chin). For 32,000 euros, Stal Van der Haar from Terwolde can call itself the lucky buyer.

Barry van der Haar: 'We bought the Diarado daughter Roselina (Diarado x Emilion, breeder Mr. Lohuis, Nijverdal) and the Dominator. The Diarado wasn't actually planned, but my wife thought it was so beautiful when she entered the ring. That was a spontaneous action! I have already seen the Dominator as a young foal and I absolutely love it. I also find the father of the mother, the clone of Hugo Simon's topper ET, very interesting.' Van der Haar bought the fillies with a view to sport, but also for breeding. 'We have bought fillies at several auctions this year to increase our breeding. In addition, we bred seven foals ourselves this year. We have also sold a few of these foals bred by ourselves. We want to let the purchased foals exercise ourselves, preferably at the highest possible level. And who knows, beautiful foals will come out of the foals we have purchased, which we may then be able to sell through Foal Auction Prinsjesdag!' said Van der Haar.
