Second edition of Prinsjesdag auction at CSI Ommen

Following a successful first edition in 2018, the second auction of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag during CSI3* Jumping De Driehoek in Stegeren-Ommen will be held on Saturday the 3rd of August. Auctioneer Koen Olaerts will sell ten exclusive jumping foals on the grounds of Familie Schuttert, and this makes sure sport and breeding go hand in hand.

Last year the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag decided, next to the regular auctions in Ermelo in September, to approach riders and sports enthusiasts by collaborating with the organizers of CSI Ommen, the Schuttert family. Their CSI3* Jumping de Driehoek has grown over the years into an international top event and the family has been supporting Foal Auction Prinsjesdag for many years. Several times they already bought one or more foals at these auctions, and that was also the case in Ommen last year. “Although the preparations were somewhat short, we were able to present a good collection together with the breeders. The auction in Ommen realized an average price of more than 10,600 euros”, says Prinsjesdag chairman Arjan van der Waaij. “And what we were hoping for also became reality, because top riders such as Lucas Porter, Willem Greve and Hendrik-Jan Schuttert invested in the future by purchasing foals in our auction.”

The future presented
Broadly speaking, the structure of the auction remains unchanged compared to last year’s edition. “The auction will take place a little later in the evening, in between the first round of the Medium Tour final and the jump-off. That will be around 9 PM. In this way we can present the showjumpers of the future to the riders and other sports enthusiasts in a great moment and atmosphere.” The registrations for both the Prinsjesdag auction on Saturday the 3rd of August in Ommen and on the 17th of September (jumping foals) and 18th of September (dressage foals) in Ermelo have been opened and the first foals are already selected. “For the auction in Ommen, we are specifically looking for foals born in the first half of the season. In addition, the selection committee clearly monitors the presence of performance genes in the pedigree, a good canter, and a correct and appealing conformation. We have already made a good start for Ommen by selecting the first foal which meets our high standards,” concludes Van der Waaij. Registration of foals for one of the three Prinsjesdag auctions is now possible on this website. The complete collections will follow on this site in due course.
