Prinsjesdag Foal Auction again breaks its own record with total sales of the showjumping foals amounting to almost € 900,000.-. The average price was almost 14,000 euro. The two day auction kicked off last night with a top class showjumping collection, which had attracted interest from all over the world. Auction topper was For Capitol (For Pleasure x Cero I). This colt went for the considerable amount of 48,000 euro. This super foal bred by Harm Thormählen will remain in Germany and goes to Studfarm Drei Eichen.
Fourteen foals of excellent quality were sold for 20,000 euro or more. Also bred in Germany and going for 40,000 euro was QuickStead (Quickly de Kreisker x Hickstead, breeder O.B. Schoof from Hedwigenkoog) to a stable in Switzerland. 26,000 euro was paid for the BWP product Quickly van de Celiebrug (Cornet Obolensky x Darco, breeder F. Engels from Sint-Laureins) wich went to Brazil and for the same price Kansas Z (Kannan x Quidam de Revel, breeder J.H.A.P. Marcellis from Vredepeel) was bought by Indonesian owners. Stefan Morssinkhof from Belgium invested 26,000 euro in Lucky Star (Big Star x Numero Uno).
Quartina DC (Comme Il Faut x Nabab de Reve) stays in her own country for 26,000 euro, same as the foals bought by Jan Vink from Studfarm Black Horse, Lord Cornet (Cornet Obolensky x Corland) which went for 30,000 euro, Tivoli Z (Toulon x Nabab de Reve) for 26,000 euro and Quantum van de Bisschop (Untouched x Elvis ter Putte) for 26,000 euro. Two foals were knocked down for 24,000 euro: Canazei (Cornet Obolensky x Kannan) and Lovecard de Loi (Comme il Faut x Carnute). Only three of the 64 foals were sold for less than 6,000 euro.
In short, this was another record-breaking auction. PFA chairman Arjan van der Waaij can not be anything but content. “Last year’s collection was already very good, but this year’s was possibly even better. We are offering a very good product and we have found that our clientele is growing. The buyers come from all over the world, even from Australia, the U.S.A and Italy and the better sport stables come to visit us. For example, Katharina Offel came over to buy a foal. People know that we speak the truth: the foals come from excellent sport lineages. And they must be real good, otherwise it would not work this way.”
Van der Waaij stresses that the auction organisation is pleased that the breeders entrust their foals to ‘Prinsjesdag’. “They are, after all, making the foals available to us and it is our task to sell them well for them. I hope that tomorrow’s results of the dressage foal auction will be the same. Many prospective buyers have booked tickets and the VIP tables are sold out. We are looking forward to it.”
