“Pablo was a handsome colt with fine movements, his dam Kadivette brought something special to all of her offspring.”

Breeders: Jan and Greetje Nijhuis

1. What was Pablo like as a foal?
“Pablo was a handsome colt with fine movements. All the foals of his dam Kadivette had something special and about nine of her products were sold at auctions.”

2. What is his dam Kadivette like?
“We still have his dam Kadivette (Voltaire x Ursus). She is 25 now but she looks a lot younger. She is retired and grazing in the field with a horse from our neighbour. She is a sensible mare, very sweet to handle, but she was not so easy under saddle. She performed at M-level in dressage. She earned the elite predicate and she produced many good foals. Several of her offspring are performing at Z-level or higher in dressage, such as Onkadivette (Come On x Voltaire) who did Z1-level in dressage and latter’s daughter Victoria ter Kwincke (Emilion x Come On) jumped at 1.40m level and another one by Emilion at 1.35m level. Her son Goldwin (Montender x Voltaire) is doing very well riding eventing in Great Britain.”

3. Do you still keep an eye on Pablo?
“We were very active breeders before and always went to Holstein to have our mares inseminated and we brought many foals to auctions. At the moment we are no longer very active in horse breeding and -sport. It is great that Pablo is doing so well under his Canadian rider! I am still taking care of his dam Kadivette every day. We still have a gelding active in the sport, but we no longer do any breeding.”

4. Why did you choose the Prinsjesdag Auction and would you advise other breeders to sell their foals via the auction?
“We entered Pablo ourselves at the time and he was selected, which was very nice. We have had many foals at auctions. Just from Kadivette alone, nine foals were sold at auctions, such as Onkadivette (by Come On), Raphael (by Espri), Traumblume-Divette (by Escudo I), Unique B.H.  (by Escudo I), Zandro (by Sandro Song) and Esprit Z (by El Bundy I) which were also sold via Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. So you can imagine that we are real fans of the Prinsjesdag auction and would certainly recommend other breeders to sell their foals through the auction.”

5. What was it like at the auction at the time?
“The Prinsjesdag auction was still held in Middenbeemster at the time. It was always a pleasant experience. Because it was twenty years ago and we sold so many foals via the auction, I cannot remember a lot of that edition. That was still in the Florin Era.”
