With a record breaking auction, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag again proved that excellent foals with first class performance genes cause outstanding bidding duels. Sjaak van der Lei and Jenny Toes’ Orange Peel van ‘t Studutch was sold for the top prize of € 70,000 to Olympic rider Cian O’Connor and the average price rose this year to an excellent € 15,150.
The Prinsjesdag Foal Auction has been one of the best auctions in Europe for many years. With today’s show jumping foals, record prices were again achieved. And that in a time were many other auctions have to deal with disappointing results. Tonight it has been proven once again, that clients from all over the world are willing to pay for pure quality.
The power of performance
The international interest was great for the 62 carefully selected foals. Buyers from Sweden, Italy, America, Great Britain, Denmark, Ireland and South Africa, among others, made their moves at this leading Dutch auction. Olympic top rider Cian O’Connor made several investments in the future, and with that very promising foals are leaving for Ireland, including the excellent auction topper Orange Peel van ‘t Studutch. This colt by For Pleasure out of the full sister of Quickly de Kreisker underlines the auction’s motto ‘The power of performance’ in a fantastic way and was sold for the record price of € 70,000. “It is great to be able to look back on such a successful auction tonight, where we had outstanding outliers, but also the overall quality and the high average price of more than 15,000 euros are remarkable. This proves that our vision is the right one. We’ve selected excellent foals with a good canter, a good conformation and a lot of performance in the dam lines. Today it has been proven that such foals are very well paid”, says chairman Arjan van der Waaij.
Future foundation mares
As predicted, the genetically first class fillies were in great demand this evening. There was a lot of international interest for these future foundation mares. That resulted in striking prices for a.o. Casalla II van de Eijkhof (Casall x Calvaro Z, breeder Frank van Eijkelenburg, € 36,000), Unique by Nature (Untouchable x Vigo d’Arsouilles, breeders Stan and Daan Creemers, € 32,000), Chanel van ‘t Gebergte (Cicero Z x Diamant de Semilly, breeder Bob Janssens, € 28,000), Anna Bel van ‘t Gebergte (Amadeo van ‘t Vossenhof Z x Diamant de Semilly, breeder Bob Janssens, € 26,000), Diamant van de Wimphof (Diamant de Semilly x Berlin, breeder Carla Kramer, € 28,000) and Casalla Z (Casall x Calvaro Z, breeder Tinus van der Bruggen, € 26,000). Colt such as Coaster EC Z (Colman x Balou du Rouet, breeder EC Horses, € 30,000) and Cornet Blue Z (Cornet Obolensky x Chacco-Blue, breeders S. and M.A. Aerts, € 26,000) also did excellent business for their breeders. “Two-third of the foals are sold for a price of more than 10,000 euros, and 15 of them were sold for more than 20,000 euros. Of course it’s not just all about the numbers, but it is nice to get confirmed that we are all able to present a top collection here. In our selection we don’t care about the studbook of the country were the foals are born, we’ve just tried to select foals that the market demands. These results are a compliment to the breeders, the selection committee and the organization. And that gives a lot of motivation and good hope for the future of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag!”
