After more than 60 showjumping foals were sold on Tuesday for an average price of almost 14,000 euro, Wednesday was the day for the dressage collection of Prinsjesdag Foal Auction. The bidding before the break started easy before starting to soar. Twelve foals went for 17,000 euro and more, the sensationally moving Demario W even fetching 40,000 euro. Breeder Benny Wezenberg from IJsselmuiden may put the son of Desperados FRH x Painted Black on transport to Sweden. The new owner is 2m2 Trading AB, which had also done some purchasing at Prinsjesdag two years ago.
The average price of the dressage foals went up by some 330 euro to 11,330 euro compared to last year. “The first foal went easily for 11,000 euro, but then the bidding began to stall. After the break the pace was picked up again”, says VP chairman Arjan van der Waaij.
“On the other hand, what, precisely, is a less good price?”, he continues. “Playing this game, the breeder knows that once in a while you get a price below or above the average. But the price below is often still a good price. I believe that we offered a very fine collection of uniform foals with varied blood distribution.”
Demario W was easily the best-seller, going for 40,000 euro by telephone. Sold for 32,000 euro, Louis 14 Sollenburg (For Romance x OO Seven), bred by Adrie Zekveld from Almere out of the famous Grand Prix mare Astrid Sollenburg, will go to Rockanje in South Holland. And 26,000 euro was bid for Lewis Utopia (Johnson x Metall, breeder Stal van Stokkom from Drimmelen) by mister Dalsem from Den Hoorn. Willeke Bos from Stal 104 invested 24,000 euro in Lafürstinels (All at Once x Hotline) from breeder A.J.M. aan de Stegge from Enter.
Yesterday Kansas Z (Kannan x Quidam de Revel) was sold for 26,000 euro and he gets a stable mate in Dorado’s half-sister Laguna van de Westen (Johnson x Rousseau, breeder C. Kikkert from Den Burg), who was bought for 20,000 euro by the same Indonesian owner. Also top-class rider and dealer Andreas Helgstrand had come to do some purchases. He paid 18,000 euro for Let’s Go Win (Grand Galaxy Win x Krack C) bred by M. van Alphen from Hurwenen. For 18,000 euro also L.A. – Zonik L (Zonik x Goodtimes) and Lirava (Capri Sonne jr. x Scandic) were knocked down.
Grand Prix dressage rider Sander Marijnissen also did some shopping and managed to get Lexington ter Selle S (Grenoble x Jazz) for 7,000 euro.
In any case, the organisation of Prinsjesdag Foal Auction can look back at two successful auction days. “We still have to evaluate, of course, but it seems that spreading the auction over two days was a good idea. It made that everything proceeded in a more relaxed manner. For the providers, for the buyers who now could assess the foals with more ease and for the organisation. There is a good chance that we will do this again next year!” says Van der Waaij.
