“Bonne Chance already had a fine conformation as a foal and made easy changes in her footwork. She always was a hot-blooded, fidgety type with a lot of suppleness.”

Breeder: Harry van Loon

1. What was Bonne Chance like as a foal?
“Bonne Chance was a hot-blooded, fidgety type with a lot of suppleness. She already had a fine conformation and could easily change hands. You could already see that she would be a top-class showjumper.”

2. What is her dam Olijfje like?
“Her dam Olijfje (Cambridge x Concorde) was also a fidgety horse. Baloubet suited her very well. Out of Olijfje, I bred another Baloubet daughter and a gelding by Querlybet, who is a son of Baloubet. This Querlybet jumped at 1.50m level under McLain Ward. All Baloubets are chestnuts with white legs and all three of them are fidgety, but sensible. I also bred a Quidam de Revel out of her, which I sold to Belgium and a Triomph de Muze, although I was not so pleased with the latter. This stallion did not fit the mare very well. When Olijfje had a foal at foot, it was hard to get her in foal again. I also sold the full sister of Bonne Chance, but I lost track of her.”

3. Why did you decide at the time to enter Bonne Chance in the Prinsjesdag Foal Auction? Would you advise other breeders to sell their foals at the Prinsjesdag Auction?
“I entered Bonne Chance for the auction myself and she was accepted immediately. When as a breeder you know that you have a foal that is good enough, I would certainly recommend selling it at Prinsjesdag Auction. I sold several foals at auctions. At the 2014 Prinsjesdag Auction I sold a piebald colt by Fernando Torres, a son of Florencio. And I sold several foals via auctions in Brabant and Limburg.”

4. How did you feel about the Prinsjesdag Auction at the time?
“It was a pleasant experience, The Prinsjesdag Auction is a very professional auction and Bonne Chance showed herself well in the ring. Her sales price did disappoint me a little. She went for € 14.500,00, I had hoped she would go for a thousand or so more.”

5. Do you closely follow Bonne Chance?
“I do, I check her results regularly. It is great how she is doing at international level under Janika Sprunger. This rider really has a click with this sensitive mare. I love to see how they are doing. I hope to get Bonne Chance back one day for breeding!”
