Buyer and current owner: Dirk Kat
1. What appealed to you about Brittsion at the auction at the time?
“Dirk Reyne advised me to buy Brittsion. He said that it was one of the best foals in the auction. I agreed with him and valued the advice from Dirk. In addition, the breeder, Dirk van der Oort, had already raised my expectations about this mares line.”
2. How did rearing and training Brittsion go?
“She was reared at our place. Wijnanda van Brenk, who rides for my brother, did a good job starting and training her. She laid the basis for her performance today. When she was about a 5-yr-old, she moved to Derk Schekkerman, who brought her to Small Tour level.”
3. Did Brittsion meet your expectations?
“Brittsion has become a wonderfully elegant horse. She is doing super in the sport. Recently, she and rider Zoë Kuintjes joined the junior A-team. They form a great combination of which I am very proud. For me, Brittsion is in the top 5 of the best foals I ever bought. Via ICSI we flushed her and she now has three foals by Rubinstein. Two were born this year, the other one last year. They are all top-class foals, looking very appealing. “
4. Do you have a special tie with Brittsion?
“Horses that perform with character have always appealed to me. Brittsion is a good example, as was PrimeVal Wings at the time! From time to time I look her up in her stable. When she is performing at a show nearby, I try to make time to see her go. I followed the international classes in which Zoë started live-stream.”
5. Was the bidding exciting at the time?
“Bidding in an auction is always exciting, especially at Prinsjesdag, where you often find the best dealers and you have to stay sharp. I was determined to get Brittsion, so I kept on bidding until I had her.”
6. Why would you advise people to buy a foal at Prinsjesdag Foal Auction?
“Prinsjesdag Foal Auction was an initiative of a few entrepreneurs from Noord Holland and I was one of these. I bought about twenty foals at the Prinsjesdag Foal Auction and I also bought several in Borculo. You always take a risk when you buy a foal. You can see their movements, know their bloodline, but the character has to be good, as well. I have had foals that grew into top-class horses, but I also sold several again. All in all I am pleased with the quality and the performances. When you decide to buy a foal at an auction, Prinsjesdag Foal Auction is the best place to do it!.”
